Oceania Retirement Village Meadowbank - Dementia Care

Oceania Retirement village in Meadowbank Auckland: Precision and Expertise.

We are proud to have contributed to the construction of the Oceania Retirement dementia care unit in Meadowbank, a project that combines comfort, safety, and modern design. Our role was to apply intumescent coatings to the steel supporting the building’s floors, ensuring fire protection and structural integrity for years to come. 

We encountered a bit of a surprise on this project as the client unexpectedly required the new roof to be painted. Although roof painting isn’t something our teams would normally carry out, we stepped up to resolve this issue and get this project over the line.

What made this project unique?

• Complex beam profiles:  We typically use airless spraying for efficiency, this project demanded a more hands-on approach. 

• Manual application: In some areas, the beam profiles were so complex that we had to apply intumescent coatings using rollers and brushes. This meticulous process required multiple layers, each applied with precision and allowed to dry thoroughly before the next could be added. The manual application method not only took more time but also demanded DFT control at every stage to ensure the coatings met the required fire safety standards. Despite the added complexity, our team’s attention to detail ensured complete coverage and compliance with all technical specifications.

• Attention to detail: We carefully planned each step, from selecting the right tools to monitoring the application process, to ensure the coatings met all technical and safety requirements. 

• Client Support: Following the Intumescent coating application, we were engaged to resolve a colour change required for the roof on this new building. Our team stepped up and resolved this issue ensuring there were no delays in getting this project completed.

• Team collaboration: Working closely with the construction team, we aligned our work with the project schedule, ensuring seamless progress without delays.  

•  A project to be proud of: Oceania Meadowbank Retirement House project was a testament to our team’s skill, adaptability, and commitment to excellence. It reminded us that even the most technically demanding challenges can be overcome with the right expertise and a focus on quality.
