Construction of the New Lynfield College Building: Experience, and Innovation
We are excited to share the results of our involvement in the construction of the new Lynfield College building. While this project might be considered technically "straightforward," it provided us with valuable experience that helped us refine our working methods and implement new solutions.
What did we do?
As part of the team led by Naylor Love, we were responsible for applying intumescent & protective coatings to the steel structures of the building. The intumescent coatings play a critical role in ensuring fire safety, protecting the structures from high temperatures and maintaining their integrity in emergency situations. The protective coatings are an essential part of preventing steel corrosion and extending the life of the building.
Challenges we faced:
The construction site was open, meaning we were entirely dependent on weather conditions. Air humidity and rain, particularly dangerous for intumescent & protective coatings, became our main "adversaries." The beams located along the perimeter of the building were especially vulnerable, as they were harder to protect from the elements.
How did we overcome these challenges?
To avoid compromising the application process, we had to carefully plan our work, relying on forecasts from weather services and radar data. We analyzed risks and selected optimal time windows for work. This required not only professionalism but also flexibility from the entire team.
Valuable experience and innovation:
This project became an important lesson for us. After its completion, we introduced an innovation that we now use on all our open sites: a special non-woven material. It protects work areas from wind and rain and helps maintain the climate for coating application.
Benefits of the new approach:
- 🌧️ Less dependence on weather: We can now work more efficiently, even in less suitable weather conditions.
- 🏙️ Overspray protection: In dense urban environments, this is especially important, as the material prevents coatings from spreading beyond the work area.
- ⏱️ Time and resource savings: The new method reduces downtime and minimizes risks associated with weather conditions.
Why are we proud of this project?
Lynfield College can now be confident that its new building meets the highest standards of safety and quality. For us, this project was not only a successful completion but also a step forward in developing our working methods.
A special thanks to the team at Naylor Love. Their deep involvement and attention to detail ensured that our work was seamlessly integrated into the overall construction schedule. They were always ready to discuss critical aspects of our work, from weather-related risks to technical requirements, which helped us maintain the highest standards of quality and safety.
We continue to improve, making the world safer and our projects even more efficient and resilient to any challenges.
